About us

We are: Lex Kamphuis, Nancy Kamphuis-Serpa and our two children Eric and Kevin.
Lex is Dutch and Nancy was born in the U.S.A.

Lex and Nancy met each other on a bicycle trip that was organized by Bikecentennial, presently known as Adventure Cycling Association. The trip took place in the western part of the United States in the summer of 1988. This 2300 mile bicycle ride started in Portland, Oregon, and ended seven weeks later in Boulder, Colorado. The route followed part of the Pacific coast, went eastbound over the Oregon Cascades into Idaho, Montana and Wyoming and over the Rocky Mountains to our final destination in Boulder. Below are some pictures of this trip. Click on a picture to see a larger format.

After a number of visits to the Netherlands and the U.S.A. we got married in 1989. After our marriage we settled down in Jamaica Plain near Boston, Massachusetts, where Nancy worked as social service coordinator at Upham's Corner Health Center in Dorchester. Lex got a job at the New England Historic Genealogical Society, first as Supervisor of the Circulating Library, later as Director of Library User Services.

In 1992 we moved back to the Netherlands. First we lived for almost 6 years in Wageningen. Our eldest son Eric was born here in 1994. In January 1998 we bought a house in the village of Heelsum. Less than a month after moving here our second son Kevin was born.

Lex is employed as a Consultant for Digital Information at the provincial service organization for libraries in Gelderland. Nancy is a Medical Social worker for the Children's Hospital of the University Medical Center St. Radboud in Nijmegen.
Eric is a student at Dorenweerd College in nearby Doorwerth. In his free time he plays soccer at RVW (a local team). At home likes to play games on the Playstation 3, chatting on MSN and playing computer games. Eric has a big social network and hangs out with his friends as much as possible.
Kevin is also a student at Dorenweerd College. In his free time he's likes to work on his computer, construct all kinds of electronic experiments and spend time watching television (TMF and Comedy Central). He also likes playing games on the Playstation 3..

Our lives are busy with balancing daily responsibilities, children and enjoying spare moments of free time. Therefore it's hard to keep in touch regularly with our friends and family world-wide. That's why we make use of this website as a way of keeping them updated on our whereabouts. Please visit this site from time to time to see what's happening in our lives. We would appreciate it, if you would write a small note in our Guestbook, or send us a message.
